TWELVE ANTI-NUCLEAR PROTESTORS FOUND GUILTY OF TRESPASSING AT OAK RIDGE’S Y-12 NATIONAL SECURITY COMPLEX
KNOXVILLE, Tenn – Today, 12 anti-nuclear protestors charged with trespassing the Y-12 national security complex were found guilty after a three-day jury trial. The defendants, Jean T. Gump, Elizabeth Ann Lentsch, Bradford Lyttle, William Bichsel, Bonnie Urfer, Carol Sue Gilbert, Ardeth Platte, Jacqueline Hudson, Paula Rosdatter, Michael Walli, Steve Baggarly and Dennis Duvall, were charged with willfully and without authorization entering upon the property of the National Security Administration (Y-12 National Security Complex) located in Oak Ridge, Tenn., on July 5, 2010.
The defendants entered the property after a lawful anti-nuclear protest held adjacent to the Y-12 facility. All convicted today face a maximum possible punishment of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine. Sentencing dates have not yet been scheduled.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jeff Theodore and Melissa Millican.
U.S. Attorney Bill Killian commended the verdict and said that he hoped it would send a strong message that those who unlawfully trespass or attempt to compromise the security of the Y-12 National Security Complex will be vigorously prosecuted.
